Summer is in full force here in Portland, Oregon and it's suburbs. It has been 90 plus degree for days now and the chickens are really feeling it. To stay cool our poor Goldhen Girls have been walking around with their wings held away from their body. I have been looking for ways to help our feathered ladies beat the heat and decided to ask our very own Little Chicken Tender for some tips.

Keep Your Chickens Cool in Hot Weather
Make sure that your chickens go in the shade. Feed them watermelon and make sure that they drink lots of water. Do all of that when it's 90 degrees outside. You could also put out electric fans for them. One fan could even go in the coop. Put out a sprinkler or pool if your chickens like to go in water. If your chickens don't like water just use the electric fans.
Thanks for the tips, Little Chicken Tender! Our winters are very long in the Pacific Northwest so I don't want to complain about this lovely sun we are getting, but I wouldn't mind a break from this hot spell and get a nice cool 75 degrees.
Thanks for reading! Stayed tuned next week for more tips from our junior blogger.
