How to Tame Your Chickens

A lot of people have been asking us how we got our chickens to be so tame. First, you should start by choosing a friendly chicken breed.  Here are some that I know are friendly, but my mom says there are more breeds than this.

Silkie
Australorp
Barred Rock
Orpington

To make your chickens want to be held and follow you around in the yard you should start holding your chicks right away so they get used to you. Don't hold your chicks too much the first 24 hours because they might get scared and get pasty bottom. Make sure to hold and pet your chickens EVERY DAYUse treats, treats and more treats. It helps them to be friendly because they will do just about anything for them!

  3. Thanks for the advice. I'm glad you talked about making them friendly with treats. I'm going to hold each today and give a treat from my hand.

    1. We started 24 hours after we brought them home as chicks. They loved eating chopped up greens and scrambled or hard boiled eggs.
