Caring For Chickens in Warm Weather

Chickens do better in cold weather than hot weather.  Signs that your chicken is too warm are they hold their wings away from their body and pant.  Chickens with big combs do better in hot weather because it helps them get rid of their hot feeling.  The bigger the comb, the faster they cool off.  My Easter Egger doesn't do as well in hot weather as my Buff Orpington because her comb and wattles are tiny.  When it gets hot she always holds her wing away from her body.

away from her body to cool off.

Ways to Help Your Chickens Cool Off:
Give them shade
Give them cold water
Don't chase them
Give them cool treats like frozen fruit
Add electrolytes (That's what my Mom said)
Give them cold water to stand in

I hope this helps your chickens!
